On Saturday, October 14, 2017 Somalia faced the deadliest attack the country has ever seen killing more than 358 and injuring more than 400 innocent civilians after a truck full of explosives went off in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu. The explosion happened outside a hotel at a busy intersection that was lined with government offices, restaurants and stalls. The bombs destroyed buildings, stores and cars. Rescue workers are still searching for remains trapped under the rubble of the ruined hotels, buildings and shops. As a response to this disaster, the Somali community in Toronto wants to come together to raise funds for the families of the victims and the survivors themselves. These funds will be used to buy more medical supplies, to rebuild businesses and streets that were destroyed, and most importantly, to speed up the recovery process for those who are injured. It was a devastating tragedy that shook a nation, and together, we can move out of this mourning phase and help the victims on the ground.
