The Youth Outreach Worker Program is an initiative that aims to empower youth between the ages of 12 to 29. The goal of the program is to promote engagement of youth and their families in the community as well as increase youth access to opportunities. In order to achieve these goals, Midaynta’s YOWs:
Work with community agencies, schools, community housing, hospitals, community health and mental health facilities, aboriginal services, faith community, settlement services, local police, probation, parents and youth.
Work with the public and separate school boards on supporting and re-engaging youth facing challenges in school as a consequence of a suspensions and/or expulsion.
Work with community partners to enhance their capacity to serve community youth and their families
Collaborate with Lead Agency to ensure timely data collection and analysis to inform program evaluation
In order to ensure youth, meet their unique needs, our YOWs provides outreach referral and follow-up services for youth 12-29 years old and their families to programs and services including but not limited to:
Pre-Employment Development (e. Job search, Resume, cover letter, interview skills, etc.)
Bridging Programs to Post-secondary Education
After School & Summer Programs
Summer Job Readiness
Conflict Mediation
Skilled Trades & Pre-Apprenticeship Programs
Mental Health & Addictions Assessment & Treatment
Recreational Programs
Community Crisis Response, Parent Education
Diversion & Re-integration Services
Our services are offered in English, Somali, Swahili, and Bajuni.
